Omar Chavez Barely Beats Juarez, Sierra Upsets Lopez

By Jhonny Gonzalez

Welterweight prospect Omar "Businessman" Chávez went further in his career by obtaining a significant victory against the experienced Rodrigo Juarez in the main function of - "The Centenary Test of Fire" - held at the Entertainment Centre de León, in Guanajuato, Mexico.

Chavez (22-0-1, 15 KOs) and Juarez (15-12-1, 11 KOs) became embroiled in a tremendous fight that had the fans jumping with excitement as both fighters went to war for eight rounds. The final scores favored Omar who made the mistake of not boxing and instead made a decision to go to war. The victory was forged with scores of 78-77 and 79-77 and 78-77 to win a split decision.

The youngest of the Chavez dynasty gave one of his best performances to the public while Juarez threw his experience at Omar to make the fight close.

Francisco "Panchito" Sierra upset the comebacking ex-welterweight champion Jose Luis Lopez wth a sixth round TKO. Sierra brings his record up to 21-3, 19 KOs, and for Lopez it was his fifth defeat in 57 fights, with 50 wins, 28 by knockout and two draws.
