Gamache, a former two-time world champion, has guided Nielsen to eight successive victories since taking control of his corner in August 2013. As the Danish cruiserweight prepares for his toughest test to date, the renowned American coach has backed the 21 year-old to rise to the occasion.
‘’This will be another step up for Micki,’’ said Gamache. ‘’Dos Santos is experienced at world level. He’s won twenty-seven of his thirty fights, and his three losses have all come against top guys. He’s a dangerous opponent but so is Micki.
‘’With Dos Santos’ punching-power, Micki will need to stay alert. He will need to focus for every second of every round. There is no room for complacency at this level. You switch off, make one mistake, and that’s it. Boxing is an unforgiving sport!
‘’Let’s not forget, Micki is a big puncher as well, and he is at his best when he is under pressure. I believe Dos Santos will bring out the beast in Micki! I think he could surprise a few people, when he starts to show his true potential.
‘’This is the most important fight of his career. This is a fight he has to win. He’s got to deliver if he wants to make it to the top because his opponents are only going to get tougher. But I believe he is up to the challenge. People are going to see the real Micki Nielsen in the ring on February 7!’’
Nielsen’s WBC International title challenge tops an action-packed show in Frederikshavn, which also features the Scandinavian showdown between Anthony Yigit (11-0-1, 4 KOs) and Kim Poulsen (26-1, 7 KOs), and Dennis Ceylan’s (12-0-1, 6 KOs) rematch with Cristian Montilla (6-3-1, 3 KOs).
