Nicola Adams: I Want World Title Before End Of Year

By Elliot Foster

Nicola Adams claimed her fifth straight victory as a professional last weekend and is now targeting a world title shot.

The Leeds lady, a double Olympic champion, outpointed Isabel Millan over 10 rounds at the Morningside Arena in Leicester.

Adams won the interim WBO flyweight title, with the three scoring ringside judges turning in tallies of 96-94 and 97-93 twice.

And after her success, 'The Lioness' now wants a shot at the full belt which is held by 29-year-old Arely Mucino, who is a Mexican like Millan.

“It was good to get the 10 rounds in in what was a tough fight. [Millan] was there to fight as well,” Adams told Boxing Scene. “I was chilled, I was cruising. I knew she had a good chin.

“I went out looking for the knockout, then halfway in I thought, she’s going to be here for a little bit, so I changed tactics and hopefully I'll be ready to go before the end of the year.”

Boxing Scene understands Adams' promoter Frank Warren will look to roll her out again before Christmas, potentially on the same card as Josh Warrington's IBF featherweight world title defence against Carl Frampton on December 22 at Manchester Arena, exclusively live on BT Sport Box Office.

“I want that title before the end of the year,” she added. “I’m excited. I love the entertainment, the pressure of the big fights. This is what I want to do. I can just deal with what’s in front of me. I’ve boxed all around the world, girls from different countries. I’ve been in with the best of them and I don't think there's anything new that people can show me.”

Not really interested in Nicola Adams. There are no big fights in that division. The ONLY fight I want to see in the women's game is Taylor vs Cameron. Hopefully we get that next year.

Wasn't her best performance last week, but she's definitely worth a title shot sooner rather than later.
