Naoya Inoue vs. Emmanuel Rodriguez in Play For May 18

By Miguel Rivera

Another bout in the World Boxing Super Series is coming together, with a bantamweight semi-final contest edging in the direction of a finalized date.

International Boxing Federation (IBF) champion, Emmanuel "Manny" Rodriguez, was notified that the date and, in turn, the venue for the match against the Japanese superstar Naoya Inoue, who holds the WBA "regular" title.

Juan Orengo, manager and promoter of Rodriguez, has revealed to scribe Carlos Gonzalez that the upcoming fight will be held on May 18 in Scotland. That puts an end to several months of uncertainty and clarifies the outlook of the Puerto Rican boxer ahead of the semi-final phase of the tournament.

Rodriguez continues to train in Cuba for the bout against Inoue.

"He has continued running in Cuba. He stopped sparring for about two weeks, but is doing everything perfectly to win," said Orengo to Carlos Gonzalez..

Orengo decided that it was necessary for Rodriguez to settle in Havana to keep at bay those potential distractions after he displayed some struuggles in his performance during the fight against Jason Moloney that won him the semifinal of the World Boxing Super Series.

In that fight, Rodriguez escaped with a split decision to retain the IBF belt.

Last October, Inoue demolished Juan Carlos Payano in a round.

The winner of the fight between Rodriguez and Inoue will head to the final round of the World Boxing Super Series to determine the bantamweight division winner.

In the main event of that main card, the WBSS had announced that undefeated local star Josh Taylor would challenge the undefeated IBF world champion Ivan Baranchyk - although there is some confusion with the champion's manager continuing to claim that his boxer will not move forward with the WBSS due to payment issues.
