WBA welterweight champion Shane Mosley is not walking away from a big payday without a serious fight. In a recent interview by Julius Stecker of Philboxing.com , Mosley unloaded on Top Rank's head honcho, Bob Arum, and threw a lot of water on the potential Manny Pacquiao vs. Miguel Cotto bout for November 14 in Las Vegas.

Mosley went after Arum for matching the two fighters, stating that a fight between Cotto and Pacquiao will only benefit Top Rank because both boxers are under contract with them. He claims that a fight between him and Pacquiao will make the Filipino icon more money. Mosley thinks Pacquiao is making $12 million tops for a fight with Cotto.

Maybe it's me, but I don't see how Mosley will be able to get Pacquiao more than $12 million and make for a profitable event. If Mosley is taking a 40% slice, the combined purses between the two fighters [if he gave Pacquiao $14-16 million] would be around $25 million dollars or more. To make any money, the event would have to pull off a pay-per-view buyrate on a scale of Pacquiao-De La Hoya. Mosley has never been a big draw and I don't see how the fight would make more financial sense for Pacquiao. Cotto brings more a lot more fans and money earning potential to the table.

"The fight does not make any sense to me. A fight with me will make more money. I know there have been numbers going on out there like Cotto making 5 or 6 million and Manny making 10, 11 or 12. But in a fight with me, he will make more money. Bob Arum is being the puppet master putting this together, but Manny will make more money fighting me," Mosley said.

Mosley then said a fight between him and Pacquiao is the best choice for boxing, fight fans and Pacquiao fans. He then questions Cotto's cut and whether or not the wound will recover in time. I hate to break it to Mosley, but the best and biggest fight in boxing is not between him and Pacquiao. That spot is reserved for Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr. I know Mosley is close to retirement and trying to make a strong run for a big money fight but his reasoning is starting to get a bit distorted.

"And why fight Cotto. He almost lost to Joshua Clottey. It was a fight that he easily could have lost. Cotto ran around the ring in the last few rounds. The fight with Cotto is not the best fight for boxing or fight fight fans, or Manny Pacquiao fans. It is the best fight for Bob Arum. Even if you look at Cotto’s gash, do you think it will heal in time? It might just open up again if he fights Pacquiao. The fans need to know that the best and biggest fight in boxing right now is with me," Mosley said.
