UIC Pavilion, Chicago, Illinois - Tough junior middleweight contender Carlos Molina (21-5-2, 6KOs) punished former unified welterweight champion Cory Spinks (39-7, 11KOs) over twelve rounds to win a unanimous decision. The scores were 119-106, 119-106 and 120-105.  Molina used his physical strength, advantage in power and high activity to bully Spinks in almost every round. Spinks went down early in the eleventh and his corner almost threw in the towel. Another knockdown was scored in the twelfth, when Spinks was being battered and the referee ruled that he was being held up by the ropes. Spinks also lost a point for holding in the fourth.

Antwone Smith (22-4-1, 12KOs) outworked former champion Jose Luis Castillo (64-11-1, 55KOs) to win a ten round unanimous decision in a fight held at a catch-weight of 156-pounds. The scores were 100-90, 98-92 and 99-91. Castillo's two fight win streak is snapped. Smith was too big, too busy and too active. Castillo also lost a point in the fourth round for repeated low blows.
