Peter Norrelund, CEO for MTG Sports and a member of the Board at World Boxing Super Series, has told Danish paper Ekstrabladet that is has been decided to give Mikkel Kessler one of the Wild Cards - and he is thus on for the WBSS Tournament.
Kessler, 46-3, has been training for his comeback for a few months now.
His last fight was a loss to Carl Froch in a very competitive rematch in 2013. Recently, it was announced that Kessler´s colleague in Team Sauerland, WBA super middleweight champ George Groves also is on for the WBSS Tournament.
IN OTHER NEWS: As reported last month, World Boxing Council bantamweight champion Shinsuke Yamanaka fights young brash, hard hitting and ambitious Mexican Luis Nery on August 15th at Shimadzu Arena in Kyoto, Japan.
Shinsuke, in his last fight, defended his title by knocking out Carlos Carlson in the seventh round in March. That was the twelfth defense of his crown, the second longest streak ever by a Japanese World champion.
Unfazed and un-amazed Nery has been WBC Continental Americas and Silver champion. He has defeated rivals Carlos Fontes, Jether Oliva, John Mark Apolinaro, Martín Casillas, David "Tornado" Sánchez, Richie Mepranum, Raymond Tabugon, Jesús Martínez, among others.
Yamanaka will have to overcome a fresh, tough, aggressive and highly capable opponent. And Nery is a left-handed, undefeated and hungry.
