Mikey Garcia expects Adrien Broner to bounce back from his one-sided defeat Saturday night in Brooklyn.

The unbeaten Garcia out-boxed and out-worked Broner on his way to a unanimous-decision win at Barclays Center. During his victory over Broner, however, Garcia recognized that the former four-division champion still will give a lot of top opponents trouble.

Garcia has heard and read since he beat Broner (33-3, 24 KOs, 1 NC) that the Cincinnati native’s career at boxing’s highest level essentially ended with his third decisive, 12-round defeat in 3½ years. But Broner is only 28 years old and, according to Garcia, far from finished as a championship-caliber boxer.

“I think Adrien has plenty left in him,” Garcia told ESNews as part of an interview posted on YouTube.com. “I don’t think he’s a washed-up fighter, like some are starting to claim. He’s got skills, he’s tough, he can still be champion at [140] or [147]. He just couldn’t beat me. I was a better fighter.”

The 29-year-old Garcia (37-0, 30 KOs), of Oxnard, California, beat Broner by comfortable margins on all three scorecards Saturday night (117-111, 116-112, 116-112). Neither fighter appeared hurt during their fight, though, and Garcia left the ring very impressed with Broner’s chin.

“He’s tough,” Garcia said. “He can take a punch. He was dropped by Maidana and came back strong, and finished real strong. He’s a strong dude.”

Argentina’s Marcos Maidana floored Broner twice during their December 2013 bout in San Antonio. Broner recovered from both knockdowns and made that welterweight title fight competitive, but lost a unanimous decision (117-109, 116-109, 115-110).

A year-and-a-half later, Broner lost another unanimous decision to former IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter in Las Vegas. Broner dropped Porter in the 12th round of that fight, but it wasn’t nearly enough to help overcome the lead Porter had built on the scorecards (118-108, 115-111, 114-112).
