Mike Tyson Reacts To Wilder's Prediction of Beating Him

Hall of Famer and former undisputed heavyweight world champion Mike Tyson has responded to some statements made last year by current WBC world champion Deontay Wilder.

This coming Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Wilder will defend his title against Tyson Fury in a rematch of their December 2018 contest.

The first time around, they fought to a controversial twelve round split draw at Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Ironically, Fury's father named him after the legendary 'Iron Mike.'

Speaking with TMZ, Wilder explained that he would have did a job on a 1986 version of Tyson, who at that time was the dominating force in the heavyweight division.

"Me vs. Tyson in '86, I'd kick the hell outta that guy. Listen, I've got to keep it real. I know people always go back to the old school or look at the new school and there's no school where I'm not No. 1 on earth," Wilder said.

Another heavyweight Hall of Famer and former champion in Lennox Lewis, who stopped a past his prime Tyson in 2002, strongly disagreed with Wilder's position.

"I just heard Deontay Wilder said he would destroy a young Mike Tyson. My thoughts are that it's easy to talk until you actually get in the ring. I like Wilder but he's never been in there with someone that ferocious who truly wants to break his ribs with every punch. I don't see it," Lewis said.

But in a recent interview with BT Sports Tyson was advised of the comments made by Wilder and the 53-year-old legend gave a very humble reaction.

"I don't know (whether I'd beat him). I love the fact that he thinks that, because that's the way I would think as well. He's supposed to think that way, he is the heavyweight champion of the world and that's something very special," Tyson said.

[QUOTE=-Kev-;20396753]I disagree with that. 3 years is just way too convenient. That’s actually rare, for a great athlete to perform at the highest level for 3 years. Mike Trout (baseball) has been performing at an ATG level for 9 years…
