For the moment, there is just no debate.

With Andre Ward on the shelf for over a year, any case he had made as the sports new elite is supplanted by Floyd Mayweather showing he remains the game’s enduring elite.  For 15 years, he has done nothing but rule the championship circles of any division he was in.

With a win over Canelo Alvarez, he lays claim as the real Jr. Middleweight king, his fourth lineal title in five divisions.  Only Manny Pacquiao, ever, has won as many of history’s crowns.  Soon, he is likely to match and perhaps surpass the mark for most title fight wins without a loss.

And for a man who has had questions about his opposition, it is hard work to find anyone who can match the depth of his resume from Genaro Hernandez in 1998 to Alvarez now.  If the worst anyone can come up with is, “Yeah, but he isn’t better than Ray Robinson” then, well…

…so the hell what?

Welcome back to the top spot Money.  After 15 years as a champion, it’s time to declare that until someone beats the man, there is only one THE man.

Mayweather of course isn’t the only pound-for-pound move.

Since the last update in June, previous number six Abner Mares was shocked by the thundering hook of veteran Jhonny Gonzalez.  First round knockouts of that sort can be easily overrated and, given the depth of his recent resume that included a win over the fantastic Anselmo Moreno, Mares is still probably one of the best in the world.

It’s wait and see for now, as one never knows how a fighter will respond to a sudden loss.

The choice on who enters the top ten wasn’t that hard.  One need only look to what remains arguably the best top to bottom division in the sport and a champion who just handled a Machine.
