Mayweather Vows Pacquiao Will Be His 48th Victim

By Jake Donovan

It’s a fight that everyone in the industry doubt would ever happen. Now that Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao are all set for May 2, the reigning World welterweight and super welterweight king has no doubt whose hand will be raised at the end of what many figure to be the most lucrative event in boxing history.

"I am glad my decision to meet with Manny and discuss making this fight happen helped get the deal done," said Mayweather. "Giving the fans what they want to see is always my main focus. This will be the biggest event in the history of the sport. Boxing fans and sports fans around the world will witness greatness on May 2.”

The bout will take place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, which has hosted Mayweather’s last 10 fights. The run began with his May ’07 split decision win over Oscar de la Hoya, which remains the record-holder for most Pay-Per-View units sold for a single boxing event.

Of his past 10 fights, only three have resulted in anything other than a slam dunk verdict – the aforementioned win over de la Hoya; his strangely scored majority decision over Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez in Sept. ’13; and his majority decision win over Marcos Maidana in their first fight last May.

Pacquiao will be regarded as the toughest opponent of his incredible career – and the same to be held true in reverse – but Mayweather isn’t showing any shortage of confidence.

“I am the best ever—TBE—and this fight will be another opportunity to showcase my skills and do what I do best, which is win,” Mayweather promises. “Manny is going to try to do what 47 before him failed to do, but he won't be successful. He will be number 48."
