Floyd Mayweather Sr, father and trainer for Floyd Mayweather Jr., felt Jeff Horn (17-0-1, 11 KOs) was the legit winner of last month's contest with Manny Pacquiao, which took place at the SunCorp Stadium in Brisbane.
Horn pulled off a shocking twelve round unanimous decision over Pacquiao to capture the WBO welterweight title. The scores were 117-111, 115-113, 115-113.
There was a lot of controversy in the aftermath, as some observers felt Pacquiao had done more than enough to earn the victory.
The WBO conducted their own investigation, with five independent judges, and determined that Horn was the rightful winner.
Mayweather Sr. also agrees with the decision. And he hopes Pacquiao decides to retire instead of pursuing the rematch.
But the rematch looks like it's going to happen, likely on a date in the fall. The contest is once again heading to a venue in Australia.
Mayweather Sr., who guided his son to a decision win over Pacquiao in May 2015, expects Horn to once again come away victorious in the rematch - and this time he predicts Horn will make things a lot worse for Pacquiao in the ring.
"I don’t think he lost a controversial decision. I think he lost. I watched the fight and the guy beat him. I don’t know who could have made you think that it was a controversial fight. They were throwing a lot of wild punches and stuff, but Manny might as well go sit down now, it’s over. Floyd put a whooping on him and now this guy out-mugged him, out-smuggled him and did everything else. He needs to just quit, leave it alone," Mayweather Sr. told On The Ropes Boxing Radio.
"I think it was kind of close, but I could tell that the man was beating Pacquiao, I could tell. Pacquiao is going to fight again and all it’s going to do is be worse, the guy is going to beat him worse."
