Mayweather: For Garcia - Better Shot To Beat Loma Than Spence!

Former five division world champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. believes Mikey Garcia has a much better shot to overcome Vasyl Lomachanko than he does Errol Spence.

Garcia, who captured world titles in four weight divisions and currently holds the WBC world title at 135-pounds, is eager to move up by twelve pounds to challenge Spence for his IBF welterweight title.

"You have to respect Mikey Garcia for wanting to test his skills against the best guys out there. You can't fault him for doing it, you can't overlook Mikey Garcia in a fight with Errol Spence. Errol Spence can fight his ass off...it's a good matchup. Spence, he's tough, he's strong, he can bang," said Mayweather to Fighthype.com.

However, Mayweather would rather see Garcia fight two-time Olympic gold medal winner Lomachenko, who holds the WBA world title at 135-pounds.

“With the Errol Spence fight, that’s tough. That’s a tough fight for him. The Errol Spence fight is definitely a tough fight for him. His chances of beating Lomachenko are a lot better than his chances of beating Errol Spence. Lomachenko can’t take it to the body," Mayweather said.

“Lomachenko can’t take it to the body and we already seen that Lomachenko got knocked down and he didn’t even get hit hard [by Jorge Linares in May]. So anything can happen in the sport of boxing."

But, making the contest between Lomachenko and Garcia is very difficult because of their promotional ties and their network agreements. Garcia, who has a close relationship with Al Haymon, fights exclusively on Showtime. And Lomachenko, who is promoted by Top Rank, fights exclusively on ESPN.

Garcia fought a two year legal battle to break his promotional contract with Top Rank and there are still some lingering bad blood.

Spence is a much easier fight to make - because he works with Haymon and also fights on Showtime.
