Mayweather Confident Theophane Will Beat Adrien Broner

By Edward Chaykovsky

Retired pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr. is completely turning his back to fighting and strictly focused on being a fight promoter.

His company, Mayweather Promotions, has already made several world champions - including current WBC super middleweight champion Badou Jack - and he hopes to gain another one in April.

Mayweather's boxer, Ashley Theophane, is scheduled to get a shot at WBA junior welterweight champion Adrien Broner,

The fight places Mayweather in an awkward position. He's been close friends and huge supporter of Broner for several years. The two of them recently had a verbal dispute that went public, but they settled their differences within a few days.

Theophane (39-6-1, 11KOs) will be a sizable underdog with Broner (31-2, 23KOs), who at one time was being tagged as the "next Mayweather."

Mayweather not only believes his fighter will win, but he pleading with the UK fans to travel over to the United States to support Theophane in his title fight.

"I put Ashley Theophane in a position where he's fighting for his first world title against a very tough and rugged Adrien Broner. It's going to be a very good fight but we believe in our guy. I want everyone from the UK to come over to the States and support this champion, because he will be champion," Mayweather told Sky Sports.

Mayweather is currently on a tour of the UK and plans to expand his promotional reach by staging regular events in the British market.

"What we're looking forward to now with Mayweather Promotions is to bring a fight every month to London. Or to the UK, somewhere in the UK - a fight every month," Mayweather said.

As far as fighting again? Mayweather is not even considering the option. He is very content with staying retired.

"I'm happy with where I'm at, believe me. The sport has been great to me and I feel I've done a lot for the sport, too. For me to come into a sport and keep 100 per cent of the revenue has never been done before," Mayweather said.

"I had a remarkable game plan but also a remarkable team. A man who's been a mentor and a father to me in Al Haymon. A great guy. We had a game plan over 10 years ago and that's a match made in heaven."
i say its a 90/10 type of scenario in favor of broner
Normally I would agree, but he's been lazy in past fights. For whatever reason.
I think it depends on which Broner shows up, frankly. I consider Paulie Malignaggi a C-class fighter and Broner barely got past him. Theophane, from what I've seen, is a good deal stronger and more accurate. The only guy to…
