MTK Global will march back into Liverpool on St Patrick’s Weekend when a host of hometown talent will fight on an action-packed fight bill at the Greenbank Sports Academy.
Some of the city’s finest fighters will feature on the ‘Mersey Beat-Down’ bill on Friday, March 16 with Sam Maxwell, Ryan Farrag, Alex Dickinson, Johnny Quigley, Gerard Carroll and Steven Lewis all set to take to the ring.
The card will mark MTK Global’s promotional return to Merseyside for the first time since October 2016 when boxing’s leading management company staged a successful eight-fight bill at the same venue.
MTK Liverpool’s Derry Mathews is eager to ensure regular fight nights are set for local talent in the city and the former British, Commonwealth and WBA world interim champion believes the March bill could mark the beginning of a new era for Scouse boxing.
“It’s great that MTK are coming back to Liverpool,” said Mathews. “We’re a great fighting city and the lads deserve to be on local shows.
“The last show was a success and hopefully this is the start of something big for MTK in Liverpool and hopefully it can keep growing from here. We’re looking forward to a fantastic night for Liverpool boxing and there’s already some of the best local fighters on the bill with more names to be added soon.”
The cream of Liverpool boxing talent will feature on the bill, with former Team GB amateur star Sam Maxwell set to fight in the city for the first time since his pro debut on MTK’s last Merseyside promotion in 2016.
A Commonwealth Games medallist, 29-year-old Maxwell (5-0, 4KOs) is undefeated in the paid ranks following his most recent win over Romanian Oszkar Fiko in Germany last November.
Super-featherweight southpaw Johnny Quigley (14-1, 3KOs) and light-welterweight Steven Lewis (14-1, 8KOs) also featured on that on MTK’s last Liverpool bill a year-and-a-half ago, with both men looking to return to winning ways at the Greenbank on March 16.
Quigley will be back in action for the first time since a tight split-decision loss to Dubliner Jono Carroll last summer, while Lewis makes his comeback following a points defeat to Jeff Saunders in November.
Former European bantamweight champion Ryan Farrag (17-3, 4KOs) has not been in hometown action since his Echo Arena defeat to current world champion Ryan Burnett in 2016, but with the 29-year-old having got back to winning ways last September he is now set to make his Liverpool return on March 16.
Another pair of local undefeated prospects will also feature on the bill as lightweight Gerard ‘G-Man’ Carroll aims to boost his 6-0 record, while heavyweight Alex Dickinson (3-0, 2KOs) will have his fourth pro outing.
*Tickets for the March 16 #StPaddysEveMerseyBeatDown bill are priced at £35 (unreserved), £50 (reserved) and £70 (VIP/ringside) and are available from fighters on the bill and @MTK_Liverpool.
