The biggest tourney in cruiserweight division is undoubtedly World Boxing Super Series, which included arguably the cream of the 200lb division. However, not every worthy name has been included into the grand tournament. One who immediately pops out is Super WBA cruiserweight champion Denis Lebedev.
Another one is a perennial multi-weight contender Maxim Vlasov, who has competed at the top level in three weight classes to this point.
Vlasov, 31, is rated #3 by the WBC, WBA, WBO and #6 by the IBF. He is also 10-0, 8 KOs since a hard-fought loss to Gilberto Ramirez, presently the WBO super middleweight champion, in January 2015.
All of his next ten fights took place in cruiserweight class and included TKO wins over some notable contenders,
including 23-2 Ismayl Sillakh, 26-2 Rakhim Chakhkiev and 17-1 Denton Daley in his latest fight.
On December 21, Vlasov will be back in action against Namibiab native Vikapita Meroro (28-6, 14 KOs) in the first defense of his WBA Continental belt. The fight should be a walk in the park for Vlasov (40-2, 23 KOs), as his foe is 0-2 with two stoppage losses (to Dmitry Kudryashov and Kevin Lerena) in his last two fights.
The fight takes place at the legendary Krilya Sovetov arena in Moscow, Russia, under the Patriot promotional company and with a support of Russian Boxing Federation. Also on the card are expected some noteworthy names as Magomed Madiev (9-0, 4 KOs) and Umar Salamov (19-1, 14 KOs).
