Matthysse Coach Wants KO: Hard To Win Decision Over Pacquiao

Lucas Matthysse and his team have not been shy about revealing their focus for Saturday's showdown with Manny Pacquiao.

Last month his trainer Joel Diaz admitted that they're hoping to replicate the result of Pacquiao's last fight with Juan Manuel Marquez. In December 2012, part four of their rivalry ended with Marquez putting Pacquiao to sleep in six rounds.

Diaz has emphasised that it was about Marquez's timing, not necessarily his strength, that set up the devastating short right hand to end the fight.

Speaking to ABS-CBN in Malaysia, where the fight takes places, Diaz talked up his charge's chances of knocking 'PacMan' out.

"I can tell you one thing, I've trained a lot of fighters in the past, all I know about Matthysse is that he has a devastating punch with both hands. He has so much power in his punches that if he hits you with a left, he hits you with a right, he hurts you," said the Mexican-American.

"That’s why I’m so confident that sooner or later, Pacquiao has to exchange with Lucas, and if he catches him with either hand, it’ll hurt!"

Diaz also explained how it's unlikely that Matthysse will be able to outbox his Filipino foe because of his volume punching, so they do not plan to leave it up to the judges.

"We’re gonna win, and in order to win, we have to be very clear with a win. Not only win, we have to do it convincingly. If we have to go to the judges, we have to convince the judges, but with the volume of punches that Pacquiao throws, it’s hard to win a decision."

"Pacquiao has fast hands and he has speed. Lucas has the power, speed against power. They’regonna have to battle it out," added the 45-year-old.
