Masternak vs Licina in The Works For September 15

by Per Ake Persson

It has not been officially announced, but Polish sources indicate that undefeated cruiserweight Mateusz Masternak, 27-0, will take on Enad Licina, 21-4, on the undercard to Yoan Pablo Hernandez vs. Troy Ross on September 15 in Bamberg.

It´s an intriguing matchup with Masternak, a good fighter but not as good as his record makes you think, against Licina, also a good fighter but somewhat of an underachiever. He recently lost to Steve Cunningham in a world title fight and dropped another loss in his last ring appearance, against Aleksander Alexeev for the vacant EBU title.

I hadn't heard anything about Licina retiring. He's still ranked at Boxrec, which usually removes a retired fighter immediately. I am also not sure that I agree with the author's characterizations about the fighters. I think Masternak is likely bound…

I heard it's pretty much done. Good solid test for Masternak, I wonder if he can stop him..
