Marsili, Tatli Win In Helsinki, Move Toward Head-On Clash

By Per-Ake Persson

EBU lightweight champion Emiliano Marsili (31-0-1) retained the title last night (Jan 24) in Bergamo (Italy) against Gyorgy Mizsei, Jr, (21-12) and stopped his opponent in the seventh.

Earlier the same evening in Helsinki Finnish lightweight Edis Tatli (24-1) stopped Olegs Vilcans (1-8) 40 seconds into the very first round of a gross mismatch. The fight however gave Tatli, who in his last fight lost to WBA champ Richar Abril, a win in his latest fight and made him eligible to challenge for the EBU title.

Negotiations for a fight between Marsili and Tatli are reportedly already well underways and is a fight to look forward to.

Emiliano deserves a title shot like Matthews vs Abril. Marsili beat Matthews for the IBO WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP years ago, now he's 38y and he improved a lot since that fight so he deserves it. He is high ranked for IBF,…

The EBU should force Marsili to defend against the Flannigan/Ormond winner & put him in a real fight!
