Former four division world champion Juan Manuel Marquez believes last week's welterweight unification between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Marcos Rene Maidana could have been scored a draw or close win, 7 rounds to 5, in favor of Mayweather. Mayweather won a twelve round majority decision. One judge had the fight scored a 114-114 draw, as did several others at ringside. Marquez was dominated by Mayweather over twelve rounds several years ago.

"I saw a bout with more wrestling than boxing. I saw a draw or a win by Mayweather with a very small margin of two points," said Juan Manuel. "Maidana missed a lot of punches. Mayweather moved well from the waist, and the only good shots that were landed were the counters by Floyd when Maidana missed. That's why [the judges] saw him winning. It was entertaining, but it was not a convincing victory."
