Filipino boxing hero Manny Pacquiao is reportedly “not interested” in fighting Miguel Cotto or Shane Mosley and has set his sights on the winner of the Floyd Mayweather Jr – Juan Manuel Marquez showdown on July 18.

Reporters in Bangkok informed us that Pacquiao told them he was preparing for a fight on October 17 and that the opponent could be either Mayweather whom he picked to beat Marquez or Marquez should the Mexican win.

Although Cotto’s name has surfaced regularly,  Team Pacquiao insiders say the boxing hero will wait until after the July 18 fight to make a decision. Cotto in the meantime also has to get by Joshua Clottey in a title fight at Madison Square Garden on June 13.

Pacquiao reportedly is also not keen on fighting at Madison Square Garden and would rather fight in Las Vegas .

Bangkok Post’s veteran journalist Edward Thangarajah told us that Pacquiao who was given a hero’s welcome in his whirlwind one-day visit to Bangkok was also greeted by Thailand’s Tourism and Sports Minister Chumpol Silpa-archa and scores of media people and boxing fans during a press conference at the Intercontinental Hotel where he was a presenter of San Miguel Beer.

Pacquiao spent almost one hour signing autographs and posing for photos with Thai fans.

Pacquiao told them that Thai boxers are as talented as their Filipino counterparts and said he planned to recruit Thai boxers to join his MP Promotions which currently handles some talented Filipino fighters who get the breaks in the US because of Pacquiao.

Thai reporters teased Pacquiao by requesting him to sing while he had a hearty laugh when asked whether he could lend the Thai government some money to tide over its budgetary problems.

Pacquiao reportedly made a lasting impression on the Thai media who said he was “cheerful and smiling throughout” the press conference.

In an airport conversation with us, Pacquiao said he was grateful to the Thai Prime Minister and the other officials in Thailand as well as the media "for a great reception."
