Marcos "Chino" Maidana has an upcoming fight scheduled on December 12th in his home country of Argentina. While his opponent is yet to be determined, Maidana is already training in Oxnard with Robert Garcia in preparation for the fight.
Maidana entered the Welterweight division earlier this year and while he lost his debut against Devon Alexander, he bounced back nicely with a 8th round stoppage over the tough Jesus Soto Karass. As he now feels better acclimated to 147 lbs, Maidana is looking to have a big year in 2013 and informed BoxingsScene he has his eyes set on the outcome of an upcoming fight.
"I'm going to wait for the fight between [Robert] Guerrero and [Andre] Berto. And well, I'm going to see if I can get the winner" said Maidana.
Maidana was originally supposed to fight Guerrero in 2011 but a scheduled fight between them fell apart when Guerrero injured his shoulder during training. The fight was never rescheduled but Maidana would still prefer to fight Guerrero if he had a choice between him and Berto.
"[I'd rather fight] with Guerrero because he's a southpaw and with the southpaws, it’s easier to get inside on them" revealed Maidana.
Even though Maidana would prefer to fight Guerrero, he believes Berto will be victorious when both men meet next Saturday night. Maidana also said while he's heard of talks of him and Matthysse possibly fighting in Argentina, nothing as of yet is concrete and no official plans have been made.
