Lomachenko Aims To Do a "Marriaga" Job on Pedraza

Three-division world champion Vasiliy Lomachenko is eager to notch another career first on Saturday as he attempts to unify two belts when he fights Jose Pedraza.

"It's the next step for my dream," said Lomachenko, the World Boxing Association lightweight world champion who brings a record of 11-1 with nine knockouts to the bout against Puerto Rico's World Boxing Organization champ Pedraza.

"It's the next step for my goal, and after this fight I think my dreams come a little bit closer to me."

Lomachenko weighed in on Friday at 134.4 pounds (60.96 kg) and Pedraza at 134.2.

A victory could put Lomachenko on a path to a 135-pound clash with unbeaten Mikey Garcia.

Lomachenko wants to slowly break Pedraza down until he's unable to fight any further.

"His style is not very interesting and not comfortable for all boxers because he's always on defense and waiting for a mistake. If you've seen my fights, it will be similar to the {Miguel} Marriaga fight. They have the same style," Lomachenko said.

Following his May title win over Jorge Linares, Lomachenko underwent shoulder surgery. He feels 100% and says the old injury will not play a role in the fight.

"I had a very interesting camp. I had hard sparring sessions and good preparation for this fight. I used all of my punches, and I think it will be the same as before {the surgery}," Lomachenko said"

Pedraza is making the first defense of the title that he captured a few months ago with a dominant twelve round unanimous decision win over Mexico's Ray Beltran. The Puerto Rican boxer has rebuilt his career at the 135-pound weight class after suffering a knockout loss at the hands of Gervonta Davis at the super featherweight limit of 130, which Pedraza was struggling to make for several fights.

Mikey Garcia is the most formidable opponent for Lomachenko at 135. Campbell and Jr Easter are a distant second. That's it, unless Tank "little bigbaby" Davis grows some...

He was aggressive to the point of impatience against Marriaga, so that means this will probably be an exciting performance. Pedraza is not a bum but Loma is under pressure to look great here as post-fight comparisons to Davis will…
