Make no doubt about it, there is serious discussion regarding a fight between newly crowned WBC lightweight belt-holder Jorge Linares (38-3, 25KOs) and Yuriorkis Gamboa (24-1, 17KOs) for the spring.

"It's a fight we're interested in, we're talking and I don't know where Cancun came about (as the destination) how do you get a Venezuelan and a Cuban in Mexico?" said the Golden Boy Promotions matchmaker, Robert Diaz, with a chuckle. "But it is a fight that interests us. Mr. Honda from Teiken Boxing, who is our co-promoter with Linares, likes it and Jorge likes it, too. TV, can make it happen."

The intention is to hold this fight in the States and with a major television platform.

"Of course, that's what we're waiting on, the American network to see if they're interested. I'm sure they are, you got two fighters that have been on the network before so it's definitely a fight that can happen."
