Liam Williams Returns Against Top Ten Foe On Dec 21 In London

Welsh middleweight Liam Williams (21-2-1, 16 KOs) will have his third fight of 2019 when he returns to the ring on December 21.

The 27-year-old nicknamed 'The Machine' will fight at London's Copper Box arena on the undercard of Daniel Dubois v Kyotaro Fujimoto, a show which will be broadcast live on BT Sport in the U.K.

No official word on the opponent yet but Williams has said his 25th fight will be "very meaningful" with his team in the process of finalising negotiations. Boxing Scene understands that it will be against a top ten rated opponent from either the WBO or WBC. One name that can be ruled out is Ireland's Luke Keeler who is ranked three places above Williams in the WBO.

Last week Williams was exchanging verbals with WBO number two Alantez Fox on Twitter. At one point during their conversation Fox asked Williams, "Why haven't you signed the contract? We sent the contract already. Let's get this fight going." Is the American in the frame?

Williams is currently ranked 4 with the WBC and at 6 with the WBO. Should he come through his "very meaningful" fight next month then a first ever world title shot looks set for 2020.

Trained by Dominic Ingle, Williams was last out on July 13 winning the vacant WBC Silver Middleweight title dispatching of Karim Achour impressively in two rounds.

The December 21 show will also feature Sunny Edwards in a potential British Super Flyweight title against Marcel Braithwaite as first reported by Scene's Elliot Foster. Foster also reported that the bill will also feature Tommy Fury, Lucien Reid, Archie Sharp and Troy Williamson with details to be revealed in due course.

Good to see Lucien Reid fighting after being robbed last time! I feel sorry for Liam. He’s going to have ptsd after the horribly mismatched opponents Frank is going to make him beat up
