Liam Smith will be back in the ring before Christmas.
The former WBO super-welterweight champion has fought twice already this year.
Smith will now be hoping to make it a hat-trick of wins for 2019 when he heads Stateside next month.
‘Beefy’, who was last in action on August 24 at the Centro de Usos Multiples in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico, will once again head overseas for his next assignment.
Eddie Hearn, the head honcho of Matchroom Boxing who was ringside at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool last Saturday to watch Liam’s brother Callum Smith won a lopsided decision against his mandatory challenger and fellow Brit, John Ryder, to keep his consensus status as the number one 168-pound fighter on the planet, revealed that Smith will fight in Phoenix, Arizona.
He has been confirmed as an addition to the supporting cast of Danny Jacobs’ super-middleweight debut outing against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. on December 20, exclusively live on Sky Sports and DAZN.
The fight will take place at the Talking Stick Resort Arena, the scene of Julio Chavez Sr.’s last fight against Grover Wiley back in September 2005, and an opponent for Smith will be disclosed soon.
Boxing Scene understands Josh Kelly, the WBA International welterweight champion, will return on the bill after his draw against Ray Robinson back in June at Madison Square Garden in New York.
Gabriel Rosado will fight on the card alongside Daniyar Yeleussinov, who faces Alan Sanchez over 10 rounds, and there is a return for former WBO world super-lightweight champion Maurice Hooker as he steps up to welterweight against Pedro Campa.
The vacant WBC world flyweight belt will be up for grabs when Julio Cesar Martinez takes on former champion Cristofer Rosales and Reshat Mati, Nikita Ababiy and Raymond Ford are also slated to fight.
