Morden's Lenny Daws overcame a horrific cut to stop Chaquib Fadli in the 10th round to claim the vacant European light-welterweight title.

The 35-year-old (29-3-2 11KOs) looked to be well on his way to victory on the cards when a clash of heads in the eighth round threatened to turn the fight on its head in Greenhithe, Kent.

Daws suffered a huge gash above his left eye, while eccentric Frenchman Fadli was cut on the forehead and it seemed to stir him into action as he launched a blistering attack in an effort to end the contest.

However, his efforts proved in vain as he was deducted a point for use of the head and from there things just got worse for the 33-year-old.

He was dropped in the 10th by a peach of a right hook by Daws, whose corner did a superb job in stopping the flow of blood.

An increasingly frustrated Fadli was deducted a second point after going in with his head before another right hand, this time on the back of the head as he turned away, put him through the bottom rope and the referee halted the contest with Daws a winner by technical knockout.

On the undercard, Leeds light-heavyweight Bob Ajisafe won the Maxinutrition Trophy when Matty Clarkson was forced to retire at the end of the fourth round.

Clarkson was a late opponent after Travis Dickinson pulled out through injury earlier this week, but was giving a good account himself until he appeared to pick up a leg injury.

Former world heavyweight title challenger Eddie Chambers chalked up the 40th win of his professional career with a comprehensive 79-71 victory over Brazilian Marcelo Luiz Nascimento, while middleweight Nick Blackwell warmed up for a potential British title challenge with a hard-fought 78-75 points win over Welshman Nathan King with both fighters ending up with cuts.
