AMIR KHAN says he could be “just one fight away” from a megabucks clash with five-division world champion Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Khan was ringside in Las Vegas on Saturday to see WBC welterweight king Mayweather, 36, make a successful comeback from a year-long absence.
He convincingly outpointed fellow American Robert Guerrero and that has now set up a clash with former unified world light-welterweight champ Khan.
I revealed in Starsport last week that Khan wanted to fight Mayweather and is ready to move up to welterweight to achieve that goal.
Khan, 26, defeated Julio Diaz in Sheffield nine days ago.
He will return to action on December 7 and could face the winner of this month’s IBF welterweight title fight between champion Devon Alexander and Essex underdog Lee Purdy.
Khan said: “Going up to welterweight and meeting Devon Alexander is a possibility because it seems the fights at light-welterweight with Danny Garcia and Lamont Peterson are not getting made.
“I could be just one fight away from the Mayweather fight if things go to plan.”
