Things have definitely been interesting in the build up to Amir Khan and Danny Garcia’s July 14th Junior Welterweight clash. Words have been traded through the media as well as face to face between both sides and things have only seemed to escalate with some of Angel Garcia, father and trainer of Danny Garcia, recent comments toward Khan.
When Khan spoke exclusively to BoxingScene, he was very confident that that he’ll be able to beat Garcia in dominating fashion and also feels Garcia isn’t on his level.
“We’re going to in there and we’re going to box him and we’re going to make him look silly. We’re going to show who the better fighter is. There are different levels in boxing and Danny Garcia has won a world title but I don’t think he’s in the same mix as myself and the elite fighters” stated Khan.
“If he thinks he is [and] he’s going to give it a try, we’ll see how he copes. If it does go a couple of rounds we’ll give him respect for that. But like I said, I’m not going to be taking it easy in there. My job is to win the fight and be smart in there and knock Danny Garcia out”.
While Khan hasn’t been the most active fighter due to his fight with Peterson being cancelled due to Peterson failing his random drug test, he’s been busy training in the gym. Before the Peterson fight, Khan had told BoxingScene that he had started training weeks before training camp to get himself in the best physical condition.
While all the training and preparation he did before might seem like it was done in vain, Khan believes it will help him in his upcoming fight.
“I’ve took all that training into this fight so I’m more than ready for this fight. And I know when I don’t cheat myself and I train hard, nothing can go wrong. I know I have more skills, more power, more speed than Danny Garcia [and] that’s what is going to win me this fight” declared the Bolton native.
Khan assures everything is going great in camp and with new strength and conditioning coach Ruben Tavares. Khan looked stronger and more muscular but assures he’s not any bigger than before and has retained his speed and feels stronger.
