In a recent news brief on BoxingScene.com, Marcos Maidana dared WBA junior welterweight champion Amir Khan to fight him. Maidana returns on August 28 against veteran DeMarcus Corley. He wants to face Khan on December 11. Both are promoted by Golden Boy Promotions.
"Stop looking for possible opponents for Khan next December 11 in England. Stop looking for lightweight boxers and face the real 140 pounders. I’ll go to Khan’s home soil to take the other portion of the WBA title, which belongs to me”, Maidana said.
Once posted on BoxingScene, a high volume of readers sent the information to Khan and demanded a response. Khan answered back on his personal twitter page, stating that he would fight Maidana in December if Golden Boy puts it together. The frontrunner is still Juan Manuel Marquez. If Marquez falls out, Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer told BoxingScene that Maidana would be the next obvious choice.
"Looking at fighting Maidana, hopefully Golden Boy can get the fight in the UK [on] Decenber 11th, then [I'll] go for winner of [Devon] Alexander vs. [Timothy] Bradley in [the] New Year," Khan said.
