Kerman Lejarraga has not fought since last February 29, when he beat José de Jesús Macías and is dying to really get himself in the ring again.

It has been known for a long time that his promoter, MGZ Boxing , was preparing a great evening in Marbella , a place that Lejarraga had already visited in the summer, and on Friday the planned night of boxing was confirmed. The event was set down for August 8th at the Plaza de Toros de Puerto Banus.

At the moment it is not yet known who the opponent will be - but Lejarraga's team is planning to get someone who is a "proven entity within the super welterweight division." An opponent is being pursued with enough credentials to where a victory would catapult Lejarraga to another EBU title fight.

The bout would be scheduled for 10 rounds and there will be an audience, restricted to 1,500 people, following safety standards for the coronavirus pandemic.

The boxer's team will give more details regarding the event in the coming days.

Lejarraga, who held the EBU title at welterweight, wants to reclaim the position he once had prior to suffering back to back losses to David Avanesyan.

“Kerman is feeling better than ever before, with renewed desire and without pressure. He is going to show his best version,” the boxer's team stated.

At one point he was being pursued as the comeback opponent by former two division world champion Sergio Martinez.

Martinez finalized his next bout with another opponent, on August 21 in Spain.

But, Lejarraga could be the opponent for Martinez's next fight. Martinez, who has been inactive since suffering a knockout loss at the hands of Miguel Cotto in 2014, is interested in facing Lejarraga in late 2020 or the first quarter of 2021.
