Ken Porter Laughs at Garcia's Talk of Fighting in Middle of Ring

By Ryan Burton

A press release was sent out last week to announce the Danny Garcia (34-1) versus Shawn Porter (28-2-1) fight for the vacant WBC welterweight title. The clash takes place at the Barclay Center in Brooklyn, New York on September 8th and will be televised by Showtime.

In the press release Garcia said, "I know that Shawn Porter is not on my level. I'm coming to fight him in the middle of the ring and I'm going to beat him at his own game."

When asked about Garcia's comments, Porter's father and trainer Kenny started to respond before the question was even fully asked.

"I hope he wants to fight Shawn in the middle of the ring. If he thinks he can pull that sh*t off, good luck with that sh*t," said Porter.

"But we are going to make you move your feet and you gotta fight. There is a lot of sh*t you have to deal with. It ain't gonna be just fighting in the middle. You gonna fight in the middle, you gonna fight in the corner, you gonna fight on the ropes and all the way back to the Goddamn locker room if you are messing with us. That is how it goes. When the bell rings with us there is no stopping. There is a lot of fighting going on."

The 28-year-old Las Vegas resident has been out of the ring since his November unanimous decision victory over Adrian Granados.  In his previous fight he stopped Andre Berto in 9 rounds.

With the welterweight division brimming with talent, Kenny said that big fights are all that they have on their mind.  If everything goes well against Garcia, they would like to face one of the other titleholders in their next ring appearance.

"Keith Thurman, Danny Garcia, Errol Spence, Bud Crawford. That is it. That is all we want to do. We don't want to fight nobody else. It is what is. That is who we want to fight," Porter told BoxingScene.com.

The co-feature fight of the evening is expected to include WBC super middleweight champion David Benavidez and is expected to be announced in the near future.

Kenny Porter needs to hire a stylist before he speaks on anything. I just know Angel's gonna roast his pimp clothes. And that apple hat turned to the side, Kenny? C'mon, dawg. Do better, my g.
