Joshua Will Be Cautious of Ruiz's Combinations, Hand Speed

WBO, IBO, IBF, WBA heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua is not taking any chances with his upcoming bout against Andy Ruiz.

Ruiz is a late replacement for Jarrell Miller, who was pulled from the fight after coming up positive for performance enhancing drugs in three separate tests.

Their contest takes place n June 1, at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Joshua, who makes his American debut in the contest, has been studying a lot of footage with Ruiz's bouts.

He is very impressed with Ruiz's hand speed and his combinations.

"If you watch some of his fights a lot of his knockouts have come from combination punches. And I feel like it's the punch you don't see that hurts. And Ruiz Jr has got speed in both hands," Joshua said to Sky Sports.

"So I have got to make sure I work on my reactions - staying off my phone to make sure that my eyes aren't too tired because I've got to stay sharp with my eyes and how I react to these type of punches."

The only defeat on Ruiz's career is a twelve round decision loss to Joseph Parker in December of 2016. The contest was very close and there were some who felt Ruiz had done enough to pull out the win.

"His strengths are his ability to come forward and absorb punishment and avoid punishment, as well. Because a come-forward fighter seems to walk into punishment - he doesn't take too much stick. He can knock guys out so that means he's heavy handed. He has the ability to throw combination punches whereas I feel like the European style that I have been taught is 'jab, one, two, jab, one, two, hook'. But he can throw left hook, right hook, left hook, right hook, uppercut, hook, right hook to the body," Joshua said.
Yeah I see Ruiz pride getting in the way and taking a terrible beating
It may not just be pride. Joshua is bigger and more technical. Ruiz has quick hands with decent power. Other than that, he is limited.
He should beat Ruiz. The question is how will he look? Will he resort to holding and hitting, stalling? The only real chance for Ruiz is to make it an early slugfest. I hope he swings for the fences and…
Joshua is no Hof right now. He might be one day if he can beat Wilder and Fury which I doubt. Ruiz should make it an entertaining scrap but in the rear end Joshua's hands will be raised.
He should…
Uh oh you just upset the brits. Joshua is the "champ". He has a 1/2, decent power, stamina issues, and not the greatest whiskers in the world. He is the champ though by beating Charles Martin and an old klitschko.…

AJ just following what Hearns is telling him what to say and do to help sell the fight! I hope Ruiz jr pulls it off but AJ should mop him up inside of 3 to 5 rounds!
