Josesito Lopez Parts From Ramirez, Hires Robert Garcia

By Carlos Boogs

Welterweight contender Josesito Lopez (33-7, 19KOs) is looking to make some changes in his career by parting way with longtime trainer Henry Ramirez and hiring Robert Garcia, who trains Marcos Maidana, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., Brandon Rios, Mikey Garcia, Jesus Cuellar and a few others.

Lopez is 3-3 in his last six fights. He was riding high when he came in on late notice and got an unexpected ninth round knockout over Victor Ortiz in 2012. He made a drastic move to junior middleweight and was destroyed by Saul "Canelo" Alvarez that September.

He came back the following year and was stopped in six by Marcos Maidana. After that defeat he built up a three fight win streak.

Earlier this year he scrapped with Andre Berto in headline bout of the Premier Boxing Champions on Spike TV network debut. He was ahead on the scorecards when Berto got a stoppage win in the sixth. Berto catapulted off that win into a Floyd Mayweather shot earlier this month.

i give josesito tons of props. he faced some good fighters and most fights on short notice. he has skills and was even putting it on berto before the stoppage. tons of heart and most times was at a weight…
