Lightweight Jose "Chelo" Gonzalez (22-1, 17 KOs) is training and ready to reappear in mid to late July after recovering from an issue with his stomach that caused the cancelation of a scheduled fight on April 28 at the Ruben Rodriguez Coliseum in Bayamon.
Gonzalez held his last fight in May of 2013 against then WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns, and he retired on the stool after nine after injuring his left wrist despite dominating on all three official cards 87-84.
"He is training and waiting for a date in mid-July or near the end [of that month]. That is the date PR Best Boxing is looking for but it is not known yet. We are waiting for them to inform us," said his manager Andrés Ortiz.
"He just had a little inflamed pancreas [which cause his last fight to fall through] and he was slightly dehydrated. They told him to rest. He made a series of adjustments and thank God everything is fine."
