Former title challenger Jose Felix Jr. (32-1-1) has big plans for 2016. His year will kick off on January 30th when he faces Ricky Sismundo (30-8-2) in a bout that will be televised as part of the Solo Boxeo series on UniMas in Southern California.
The 23-year-old from Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico said that he has been training hard through the holidays and is eager to put on a spectacular performance after hitting the deck in each of his last two fights which were both unanimous decision victories.
"I am training very hard," Felix told BoxingScene.com. "There haven't been any parties for me for Christmas or New Year's Eve. I am just training, giving it my all, so that I can shine on January 30th."
Felix has won 5 in a row since losing to then WBA super featherweight champion Bryan Vasquez in 2012.
After the loss he moved up to lightweight where he said he feels much more comfortable. He said that he recently met with his team and that his promoter Top Rank has promised him a second opportunity at a title in the new year.
"I am going to have a busy year. My team told me that I am going to get 4 fights this year. The first one on January 30th, then a fight in April and assuming everything goes as planned I will fight for a title in July or August. I will then be back for another fight in December. That is what I was told and hopefully it comes true," said Felix.
