Jorge Melendez Could Return on Cotto Card on 6/7

By Rick Reeno

Gaby Penagaricano, the legal adviser to junior middleweight contender Jorge "The Destroyer" Melendez (27-3-1, 26KOs), tells that his fighter will possibly return on June 7th at New York's Madison Square Garden. The event will be headlined for former three division world champion Miguel Cotto, who will potentially challenge WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez.

For Melendez's next fight, Penagaricano is looking at several possible opponents who are promoted by Top Rank and Golden Boy Promotions. There were discussions for Melendez to face Alfredo Angulo on the Broner-Maidana undercard on December 14, but the Puerto Rican puncher was unhappy with the financial offer.

Melendez was last seen in the ring on October 5th in Orlando, Florida, where Miguel Cotto knocked out Delvin Rodriguez in the HBO televised main event.
