So what's next for current WBA lightweight champion, Jorge Linares, who was last seen defeating Anthony Crolla for the second time on March 25th in Manchester, England?
"We're working on something for September 23rd, we have a couple of ideas we'll be running between his team and our co-promoter, Mr. (Akihiko) Honda and also HBO and hopefully we'll see him back September 23rd," said Robert Diaz, head matchmaker for Golden Boy Promotions.
Linares last to bouts have taken place in the UK, with wins over Crolla in both instances.
There had been talk of a return to Britain to face Olympic gold medal winner Luke Campbell but it looks like that fight is being tabled.
Diaz explained to BoxingScene.com - "I spoke to [Campbell's promoter] Eddie [Hearn], we have a good relationship with him and there's a possibility Luke Campbell could be on the undercard then they meet after if they are both successful."
Campbell, who now won five in a row since suffering his only career defeat, is the WBC silver lightweight champion. He saw action back in April when he stopped former world champion Darleys Perez as part of the Anthony Joshua-Wladimir Klitschko undercard in Wembley.
The 31-year old Linares currently has a record of 42-3(27 KO's).
