Former champion Jorge 'El Travieso' Arce was very upset when the subject of a Cristian Mijares rematch was discussed. In the recent Mexican press clippings, there was talk of a possible Mijares-Arce rematch. Arce says there is no truth to the stories. He claims Mijares and his camp are using his name to force the rematch, but it won't happen. Arce is focused on closing a deal to fight WBO super banamtweight champion Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. on the Manny Pacquiao-Shane Mosley pay-per-view on May 7 in Las Vegas.
Arec says when Mijares beat him in 2007, he tried to get a rematch and claims that Mijares would brush him off. Now Arce says it's his turn to brush Mijares off.
"There are people who want to advertise at the expense of others, and I think that is what Cristian Mijares is doing, because I have no plan to fight him right now. I have a fight with Wilfredo Vazquez Jr., May 7 in Las Vegas, which is on the Manny Pacquiao undercard and I'm going for the super bantamweight world championship and I think Mijares is a super flyweight," Arce told Isaac Guerra .
"The fight is impossible and I do not know where they get this rumor, but something must be acknowledged. At another moment in my life I made mistakes in my preparation and he won. I asked for a rematch immediately, and he never wanted to give it to me. Mijares became a prima donna, the fame went his head. We wanted to fight and he never wanted to give me a rematch until he Vic Darchinyan put him in his place, then came Cermeno beat him twice, but now that he has nobody he wants to fight me."
