John Molina: I Needed To Prove My Grit, Prove My Will

The boxing world was treated to a great fight Saturday night as Lucas Matthysse and John Molina proved that they not only could give a shot but take one as well as both men took turns putting each other on the canvas. In a Fight of the Year candidate, both men gave a great account of themselves and provided intense action.

For John Molina even in defeat he still feels he still accomplished his ultimate goal; to prove that he belonged.

“I needed to prove my grit. I needed to prove my will. That’s what this fight was all about. I wanted to prove that I belong and I believe some of the naysayers can now say you know what, John Molina is real. All the naysayers from the DeMarco [fight], with all due respect to DeMarco, I’m learning on the job. I’m ready and I’m ready for anyone at 140” said Molina.

Molina started the fight strong as he was able to put down Matthysse twice in the first half of the fight. Matthysse was eventually able to turn the momentum around and it was Molina who then tasted the canvas three times with referee Pat Russell finally stopping the action in the 11th round.

Molina, like any fighter, was disappointed with losing the fight but understood the referee was just doing his job and was just glad he was able to provide the fans a great fight.

“Pat [Russell] had to do his job. I felt good in there and it was a great shot that [Matthysse] landed. Lucas Matthysse I think has the highest knock out ratio in the division next to myself so I believe it was a good fight. I can’t take anything away from Pat Russell and I hope I gave the fans a great fight”.

Molina will be getting some much deserved rest and as for his next fight, he will leave it up to his advisor Al Haymon. John did say he’s open to fight any of the top 140 pounders including Adrien Broner and a rematch with Matthysse.

Molina put his self on the map after this fight. I am sure he will be on showtime or HBO again. Dude hits hard as hell. LOL

I'd say both are at a cross roads. Both think they are two of the best and both just took a beating. Both love to stand and war. Why not Molina versus Rios, which gets the winner back on the…
