Joe Calzaghe has informed WBO President Paco Valcarcel that he does not intend tto vacate his WBO super middleweight title, and after his September 20th bout with Roy Jones Jr., he plans to move back down to super middleweight to continue defending the belt.

Calzaghe won the title in 1997 with unanimous decision win over UK legend Chris Eubank. He defended the title a record 21-times before moving up to light heavyweight in April to challenge recognized champion Bernard Hopkins.

The bout with Jones, at New York's Madison Square Garden, will also be contested at the light heavyweight limit of 175-pounds. The move back to 168 will open the door for potential meetings with Jermain Taylor, Kelly Pavlik, Arthur Abraham and several others who are expected to crowd the super middleweight division in 2009.
