Jesus Cuellar vs. Abner Mares - LIVE Results From LA

By Ryan Burton

Galen Center, Los Angeles, Calif. - Adan Mares (14-1-4), younger brother of Abner, fought Evincii Dixon (7-14-1) to a draw in their lightweight bout. The final tallies were 38-38 on all three cards of the 4 round bout.

Rising junior middleweight prospect Erickson Lubin (17-0, 12KOs) blew out Juan Ubaldo Cabrera (23-2, 15KOs) in two rounds. Lubin dominated the fight, hurt Cabrera with just about every punch. Lubin dropped the Dominican twice in the round with the ref stopping the fight after the second knockdown at the 2:09 mark.

Middleweight contender Hugo Centeno Jr. (25-1) picked up a knockout victory over Ronald Montes (17-5) who was unable to answer the bell to begin the fourth round.  Centeno ate a few shots early on but dominated most of the action.

Unbeaten super featherweight prospect Mario Barrios (17-0) made quick work of Claudio Rosendo Tapia (24-19-4). The Texan stopped Rosendo Tapia at the 2:36 mark of the second round.

In the opening bout of the evening, former title challenger Josesito Lopez (34-7) returned from long ring absence to defeat Todd Manuel (12-12) via unanimous decision. Lopez won the 6 round bout by the scores of 60-54 twice and 59-55.

Later on tonight, WBA champion Jesus Cuellar will face former three-division champion Abner Mares in the Showtime televised main event.  In the co-featured bout, Jermall Charlo defends his IBF super welterweight belt against Julian Williams in a battle of unbeaten fighters.
