Javier Fortuna vs. Yuriorkis Gamboa Showdown in Play?

By Steve Kim

A source has told that a bout between WBA super featherweight titlist, Javier Fortuna and Yuriorkis Gamboa is being discussed. It would be part of a two-fight deal that would see the two square off in the early summer.

Fortuna (29-0-1, 21 KO's) won this title by defeating Bryan Vasquez by way of a twelve round unanimous decision on May 29th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, and then defended returned successfully on September 29th at the Palms Resort & Casino in Las Vegas to stop Carlos Velasquez in ten rounds.

The talented Gamboa (25-1, 17KOs) just recently won a ten round decision over Hylon Williams on December 19th at the Turning Stone Casino in Verona in what was his only outing of 2015. Gamboa, an Olympic gold medal winner and former world champion, has only fought four times since 2012 and twice since suffering his first career defeat, a TKO in nine to then WBO lightweight champion Terence Crawford.
Yes, Gamboa did it to himself. But it's sad to think that Yuri's career might actually be on the downswing. He was something just a few short years ago. Another wasted talent. SMH
i dont even want him to win…

Great fight if it happens. Hopefully Fortuna gets a big fight next like Uchiyama, Pedraza or Roman Martinez.
