Former IBF welterweight king Jan Zaveck (32-2, 18KOs) underwent surgery on his injured elbow two weeks ago and expects to be back in December. Zaveck was all set to defend the WBO Inter-Continental championship on August 25 in Berlin when he suffered the injury, and that also forced him to relinquish his position as the mandatory challenger for the EBU title - so it was a costly injury.

He suffered a fifth round stoppage loss to Andre Berto last September, but returned in February and won a lopsided twelve round unanimous decision over once-beaten Bethel Ushona to capture the WBO's vacant I/C title.
