Jamie Cox Confident He Would Blast Out Smith, Fielding

Jamie Cox insists he is the best super-middleweight in the country after a spectacular first defence of his European title in Dublin on Saturday night.

The 29-year-old from Swindon (20-0 8KOs) needed just 68 seconds to stop Hungarian challenger Ferenc Albert to make it three successive first-round stoppages.

The unbeaten southpaw dropped Albert with an explosive right hook which he got up from at the count of eight from referee Mickey Vann, but was then flattened moments later with another right hook, with the official this time stopping the count after just two.

With Callum Smith stopping Rocky Fielding on the same night in Liverpool to further underline his credentials as a future world champion at 168lbs, Cox was quick to talk up his own chances.

"That's a hat-trick of first round knockouts, no one can doubt my power at this weight," Cox told BoxNation.

"If that was with Smith or Fielding in there tonight they'd have been knocked out as well. The winner out of those two is not the best in the country and the public know it - I have too much power for them. I'm the best and when I get my chance I'll prove it.

"After being out of the ring for a while, I've returned this year with three first round knockouts ... I mean serious business at super-middleweight and I'm going to win a world title. I'll fight anyone at 168lb in the world right now - give me the opportunity and I'll prove it ... that's a promise."

Cox talks about "the public knows it." Ask any 100 people at random on any street in the UK and it's unlikely that even one of them would have any idea who Jamie Cox is. Maybe Frank Warren can put…
