Irish middleweight Gary “Spike” O’Sullivan is one of the opponents under consideration to fight Daniel Jacobs on April 28 in Brooklyn.

Keith Connolly, Jacobs’ manager, said, though, that O’Sullivan’s handlers should be “realistic” about what they’re asking to be paid for a fight HBO would televise as the main event of a card at Barclays Center. Brooklyn’s Jacobs (33-2, 29 KOs) will headline a card in his hometown that night, whether he faces O’Sullivan or another opponent.

O’Sullivan (27-2, 19 KOs) scored an upset in his last fight, a seventh-round knockout of Antoine Douglas (22-2-1, 16 KOs) that HBO broadcast from Place Bell in Laval, Quebec, Canada.

“Danny wanted to fight Triple-G or Canelo, but since they are obviously having their rematch May 5th, we have three or four options that we’re looking at, guys that are coming off good wins that would be good fights for Danny,” Connolly told BoxingScene.com.

“Billy Joe Saunders is our No. 1 target, but he obviously doesn’t want anything to do with Danny. The other guys that we’re waiting to hear back from could also be good fights.

“Spike O’Sullivan is one of those guys and he’s coming off a solid knockout win. But he has to be realistic in his demands if he wants the fight to happen. Otherwise, I expect one of the other offers that we have out to be taken.”

England’s Saunders (26-0, 12 KOs) defended his WBO middleweight title by masterfully out-boxing Montreal’s David Lemieux (38-4, 33 KOs) in the 12-round main event the night O’Sullivan defeated Douglas.

Jacobs most recently out-boxed Milwaukee’s Luis Arias (18-1, 9 KOs) to win a 12-round unanimous decision November 11 in Uniondale, New York. That victory marked the first fight of Jacobs’ multi-bout agreement with HBO.
