Jacobs to Arias: I'm From Brownsville; Never Run & I Never Will

By Keith Idec

NEW YORK – Daniel Jacobs has heard Luis Arias criticize him for “running” all night against Gennady Golovkin.

Jacobs scoffed at that contention during a press conference Thursday at the PlayStation Theater in Manhattan. The former WBA middleweight champion promised Arias that he won’t do anything resembling running when they meet Saturday night in a 12-round middleweight fight HBO will televise from Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale, New York.

“This is gonna be a stellar fight, you guys,” Jacobs said. “At the end of the day, it’s about two guys coming into the center of the ring and fighting. The talk back and forth, outside of the ring, is good for promo. But you guys are still gonna find out that there’s levels to this game inside the ring come November 11th. Levels.”

Brooklyn’s Jacobs (32-2, 29 KOs) will fight for the first time since his highly competitive defeat to Golovkin (37-0-1, 33 KOs) in their middleweight title fight March 18 at Madison Square Garden. Jacobs got up from a fourth-round knockdown to give Golovkin what to that point was the toughest fight of his career and ended his 23-fight knockout streak.

Milwaukee’s Arias (18-0, 9 KOs) will take a significant step up in class when he challenges Jacobs in the main event of HBO’s tripleheader.

“I don’t know if you guys heard, but I’m from Brownsville,” Jacobs said, referring to the section of Brooklyn in which he was raised. “I never ran and I never will. So this whole notion of me running and not wanting to fight the fight that he wants me to fight – because let’s face it, he’s very limited in the ring. He wants me to stand inside the center of the ring and don’t run, so he can have what he thinks is a shot to stop me or drop me or hurt me or knock me out.

“But I’m gonna make you work for everything you get. Know that. And then, when I’m ready to stand in the middle of the ring, if I choose to do that, then that’s what I’ll do. But you’re gonna know that there’s levels to this game. You’re gonna know that.”
Oh really? Then what was that against ggg. All you did was run and fought to survive the whole fight.
He didn't run as I remeber... Canelo did... Canelita is a runner, not Jacobs.
