WBC light heavyweight world champion Adonis Stevenson (29-1, 24 KOs) has been highly criticized for not facing the best competition in the last few years, but that won't be the case in his upcoming fight.
Stevenson, who scored knockouts in six of his eight title defenses, will face his toughest opponent - at least on paper - in the last few years, when he takes on former two-division champion Badou Jack (22-1-2, 13 KOs).
Jack vacated the WBC super middleweight title last year and moved up to l75-pounds. He easily demolished veteran Nathan Cleverly for the WBA world title, but later vacated the belt in order to target Stevenson.
The Showtime televised fight will take place on May 19th from Quebec, Canada.
Jack is confident that he has what it takes to take Stevenson down and finally end his reign, which began in 2013 after he knocked out Chad Dawson in the very first round, and in the same year he knocked out future cruiserweight world champion Tony Bellew.
"I believe I'm the more skilled fighter. He's a big puncher, so he's dangerous and I have to be careful and watch out for left hand," Jack said to BoxingScene.com.
"But I've been asking for this fight. He's one of the best in the division. People don't like him, so they underestimate his boxing skills. He's a good boxer too. Just because people don't like him... because he don't fight the best - but he can still fight. He puts on exciting fights when he fights, and I like that - but his era is over, it's my time now."
Jack explained that he considers Stevenson and WBO champion Sergey Kovalev as the two best fighters in the division. Stevenson was the much easier fight to make, because both Stevenson and Jack are aligned with Showtime and Al Haymon's Premier Boxing Champions banner.
"He got the best belt, the green WBC belt. He's the lineal champion, so he is one of the best. Also, him and Kovalev I consider the two top guys that I can make money and get credit for beating them. But because of boxing politics, Stevenson is on my side so that's the biggest fight that can be made for me I think," Jack said.
