Hagler: Marciano's 49-0 is Better Than Mayweather's 50-0

By Ryan Burton

Caesar's Palace, Las Vegas, Nev - was on hand when Hall of Famer and former middleweight king "Marvelous" held court for a select group of members of the media and spoke on a variety of topics.

One of the topics Hagler discussed was the possibility of Floyd Mayweather going 50-0 and breaking Rocky Marciano's hallowed 49-0 record.

Hagler, who is from the same hometown as Marciano - Brockton, Mass. - said that Marciano's record is more impressive than Mayweather's unbeaten record - because Marciano did it as a heavyweight.

"You got to realize that (Mayweather) is not a heavyweight like Marciano. If it was 50 fights in the heavyweight division I believe it would be the story and make history. I don't think because Mayweather wins this 50th fight or whatever, it isn't going to be the same as if he was a heavyweight," said Hagler.
God Manny fans are pitiful. Louis was favored vs. Rocky. Manny was a considerable underdog to TBE. That's a difference. You can use the shoulder excuse all you want but Rocky knocking out Joe Louis a much better win.

Floyd has fought good opposition, but whether he truly can be considered unbeaten is debateable considering many think Castillo beat him, and even Maidana in the first fight. Many also think Pac beat Floyd.
But two of those are…
I agree that ultimately it comes down to who you beat, when, and how. But a 0 is not meaningless especially if you managed to keep it against good opposition.
Floyd has fought good opposition, but whether he truly can…
