Melvin Gumban remains undefeated after a very comfortable decision win over former PBF Flyweight Champion Marjun Tabamo in Tagbilaran City, Bohol last night. He improves to 13-0 after winning this super flyweight fight while his opponent drops to 8-2-1-1.

Gumban, from Escalante City, showed off his fast hands in the opening rounds using his jab as a range finder and throwing relentless combinations which prevented Tabamo establishing any sort of rhythm.

The best moment of the fight for Tabamo, who hails from Misamis Oriental, came in the dying moments of the third round when he drove the ALA Gym boxer back with  a late flurry.

This seemed to set the tone for the rest of the fight for Tabamo who repeatedly waited until the ten second warning sounded to start launching his offence which entertained the crowd but saw him slip progressively further behind on the scorecards as the fight progressed.

It made for a relatively straightforward night's work for Gumban who controlled the fight from start to finish against the southpaw whose main claim to fame was winning the PBF Flyweight Title in 2007. The final scores were 99-91, 99-91 and 100-91 in favour of the 22 year old.

Afterwards he said he was content to win a decision against a potentially awkward opponent,

"In my mind I was looking to win by points but I think I could have knocked him out if I wanted to. He was a skillful fighter with a good defence and I am happy with my performance."

Two undefeated fighters faced off in the co main event as Roma Rate who had eight KOs in 11 fights took on Macrea Gandionco who had knocked out half of his previous six opponents. It made for a very entertaining contest with some back and forth action as both looked to land the sort of blows which would secure an early stoppage.

After eight rounds of action it went to the judges scorecards and all three voted in favour of Gandionco, from Misamis Oriental, who improves to 6-0-1 while Rate, from Mandaue City, drops to 10-1-1 after the first loss of his career. This ALA Promotions event took place in Tagbilaran City Mall Carpark and was free to the public.
